Ubuntu dominance

I'm working almost 10 years in software industry and if people even use Linux on desktops they use Ubuntu in 90% of time.
I met like one guy who used Debian and one Linux Mint. Few that used Arch. and that's it.
No OpenSuse, Fedora, Manjaro, Gentoo or anything else in sight.
Also Ubuntu is pretty dominant on server side as well, with some CentOS presence (I guess those people moved or will move to Alma or Rocky).

canonical keeps pushing gay shit like snap people are leaving for other distros

So much this, I can't get Inkscape to work reliably no matter how many bug reports I read.

The simple solution was to uninstall the snap version, add the ppa repository and install the program using apt.

What. In. The. Actual. Fuck.

everyone with IQ>90 just run `sudo purge snapd` as first thing after installation and get on with their life

Recently tried Ubuntu again after some 4 years away, felt like shit. It's like snap is some pile of shit that they want to smear all over everything else. It's slow, leaves shit everywhere, has a release system where I can get the latest Krita from the snap website, but can't through the command line. And all I'm reading is Canonical blaming Firefox for its slowness.
It just feels like they don't give a shit about desktop any more.

My reasoning is that it's the most popular so most software that works on linux will support it and when I want to look up how to do something it's easiest to find a lot of resources. Also because it's based on debian and uses apt, that's what I used before ubuntu and am most familiar with.

Actually I use Xubuntu but I never need help with xfce so the different DE makes no difference in that regard.

btw I don't use snaps and removed snapd from my system.

btw I don't care

suck xir masculine vagina

>remove snap
I wonder how long that's going to be possible though. I really feel they will go the way of something like OpenSuse Leap. Dropping LTS for an immutable containerized system built around snaps.

Well if that happens I'll either figure out how to use my system the way I want in spite of it or switch to another debian based distro. Not worried.

I had my round of Linux distros back in the day like a decade ago and Ubuntu was most convenient to use on a day to day no bullshit basis.

Their latest developments past few years have been very dissapointing though and I've moved my home computer to Fedora Kinote and am thinking of changing the work laptop too. The way they do the base os and then flatpaks makes a lot of sense to me and I don't have to wait for 2 fucking years every time to get a new kernel.

Just use ubuntu server instead of desktop and build up from there.

Its stupid easy to get rid of snaps, install xorg and a window manager and get on with your life.

>everyone with IQ>100 actually uses windows and just runs a debloat script

Fedora is the new Ubuntu

They want to become windows, but without the money

Yep. For desktop it doesn't really matter though, all Ubuntu-derivatives are pretty identical. Just pick whichever one you like the defaults better of.

>remove snap
>install random package with apt install
>snap gets reinstalled, and then it installs the snap package
stop pushing this bullshit

>remove snap
>installing packages is now a crapshoot, you can only hope youre not getting snap'd

Among programers that I know that use Linux, it's: Ubuntu, Debian, Linux Mint, and Pop OS.
