I miss the early days of the internet so much bros. Everybody with their shitty "Welcome to my corner" homepage, IRC chatrooms, the MSN Gaming Zone, Limewire, Microsoft Comic Chat, shitty 3d virtual worlds. It just isn't the same anymore.

>try to go to any website you used to visit back in the day
>either dead or bloated to hell with the latest JavaScript framework
>basically unrecognizable
It hurts so much.

I don't miss the mandatory Flash/QuickTime/RealPlayer plugin nonsense, I don't miss every page being HTTP (including pages that deal with payment information), I don't miss every website being designed for Internet Explorer, I don't miss VBScript, I don't miss ActiveX and I ESPECIALLY don't miss pop-up ads with no way to block them.

Even way back machine is just a bunch of dead images and links

Sometimes I'll browse the Geocities archives just to feel something

I thought about making a zoomer proof irc client in python.
Like no picking servers, channels etc...
You know cause that confuses zoomers.
Just pick nickname and join to the specific channel in the specific server.
Might have to use py2exe though. Linux users won't be able to run it but it's okay cause they'd probably savvy enough to use the python script or just use a regular irc client.
But I'd only do it if there's interest. I don't want to make something else and people ignoring it.

Yeah but the web wasn't plagued with retarded normies back then. It was mostly like minded individuals who were at least computer smart. Chat rooms back then were fun. Now it's just a cestpool of filth and anime profile pics.

I'm pretty zoomer (age 25) but thinking back to customizing YouTube profiles in 2008 and having different unique forums for every possible subject was neat.

If you use Pyinstaller you can make it for Windows/Mac/Linux with pretty much the same command.

Funny thing is I'm pretty sure back then the 35+ year old millennials were already complaining about the internet going to shit.

may i recommend wayback proxy? lets you run a server that converts requests to wayback machine urls and gives back the raw page that your old browser can view normally by setting its proxy to the machine running the server. it lets you choose a date and set a date tolerance to reduce dead links and images. i've tried it out with an emulated Win98 install and with the right settings it really brings a lot back.

But bro I've been using the net since 2000 (not as old as some oldfags, I know,) and I've always used anime profile pic.

Even still, I'd take all of that in a heartbeat if everything else reverted too.

I met up with people from online back in those days. It doesn’t seem to be a thing anymore? Or is it? All I see if this commercialised “ meetup” bullhsit.

More than that I miss all the people I used to follow, all my online friends not subscribing to radical left ideologies by default. All of them were tech industry normies, now they are pozzed basedboys celebrating BLM and trannies, every last one of them. I'm the only one of like 20 people who went in the other direction. Sucks.

Thanks fren. I'll have to install this on my nostalgia VM

On my old personal Macromedia Flash website, I had a floating toilet that would hover around the website, and if you clicked it, a topless photo of my ex popped out of the toilet. That's all it did.

Based

>radical left
Lmao, radical left != liberalism

How do we go back

we should make a retro webring

no problem. i'd recommend netscape navigator if you're not already using it and just use automatic proxy configuration with the url mentioned in the github page. also you might be surprised that you can actually get results from popular search engines if the term was common enough. i was kinda blown away the first time i tried it

It's the cultural left from the leftist anarchist ideology
