How long until Google’s search engine just becomes a full on shopping catalogue? They have to be losing users. Their search is atrocious.

Isn't it already?

it really is, even technical stuff is difficult to search nowadays, even with perfect terms being used
I miss the time when you could have completely retarded inputs and it would still get you exactly what you wanted in the first 5 results

just use tiktok bro

They aren't losing a single user.
Only power users notice the decline, and they were already using other search engines.

Many power users actually still used Google because it was better. I would guess even the majority of them still used it.

However - those who still used it, mostly continue to use it. "Power users" itself are a dying breed, nowadays zoomies already feel attacked by the term alone. So they do indeed lose almost no one and probably expanded their reach into normies. Many of the older generation may complain about Google sucking now, but they continue to use it.

>If Google detected a decline in usage during their A/B testing, they wouldn't have rolled out the change.

Well unless they just don't care that less users use it when they still make more money with the remaining cattle looking at the product catalog.

A search engine becoming shit over time doesn’t show up in one a/b test you fucking mongoloid

i have to use chrome on my work laptop. everytime i try to google something, at least half of the search results are marked as ads. fuck that shit.

I've been using this as my search engine for months, life is good:

(Any Forums thinks it's spam baka)

Are you Brave™ enough to switch?

Its ok lots of technical papers and shit like that come up but sometimes you land on like polish ebay and have to change it and alot of the time i feel like i need to click the button to check google too. Also forget about getting results for anything local like local business hours but thats kind of by design.

>nowadays zoomies already feel attacked by the term alone
laughed, then cried

>Their search is atrocious.
wouldn't know, havent used it in well over a decade.

I really thought it was me turning retarded due to age. There doesn't seem to be any competent search engines anymore.

What hardware would I need to start my own search engine? How much storage space would I need to have something worth using? I'm not talking about some retard meta search engine like Searx. I'm talking about a real search engine with it's own web crawlers.

Some dude on Quora who cares more than I do thinks "an index of 10 billion urls would yield a world-class search engine, taking up about 200TB, split about evenly between documents and the index."
If your search engine didn't care at all about normie shit, you could probably make that much smaller.

Although they do mention that would only be for one cluster.

I unironically use brave search. Seems good or even better than Google

Either I'm completely retarded or the search is still good. I've literally never had a problem where I couldn't find something in Google's search but could in other search engines. What the fuck are you even searching? Is it some kind of information that doesn't fit the agenda?

200TB is practically nothing. I can afford that. Are there any open source web crawlers I can study?

storing shit and crawling stuff is piss easy.
how are you ranking and weighing each individual result? out of 1000 results which is going to be #1 and why that one?

>posting onion search engine
based or fed
not sure

i used brave for like 2 months because of the DDG censorship scare and decided brave was a shittier version of Google. rarely got what i was looking for and after doing a little testing i discovered it just fed me the same results as google. so im back on ddg
