2000 and 2003 had terrible gaming and multimedia support though. Lots of shit in these areas wasn't supported or didn't work, even after lots of tweaking and patching to make them more desktop friendly.
They were fine if you only used your pc for productivity programs, coding and browsing the internet.

This is true. When I was 12 (back in 2004-5) I wanted to use 2000 because I thought XP had too much bloat, but it was simply nowhere near as good for muh gaymes. Sid Meier's Pirates had a horrible stutter on 2k no matter what I did, while XP ran it flawlessly.
