Technically in no way, but if you're the user of an OS/utility/whatever you'll basically find yourself using an inferior product since a lot of big corporations will start taking the code the thing you use is comprised of and start releasing improved revisions for a hefty markup without ever contributing anything back the improve the base code.
This is basically what happens with FreeBSD, corporations like apple, sony or nintendo are using FreeBSD in some shape or form for their operating systems, but they have never ever contributed anything back to the base project, so the FreeBSD community finds themselves in the position of making trillions to some corporations while they struggle to even have basic functionality on their OS like support for current gen hardware or to even be able to play videogames when their fucking OS is used on consoles.
