Because you fail to understand what a 'token' employee is. These companies will hire a minority female it hits their check boxes, then promote themselves out the ass, giving them the spotlight as lead dev when they are simply equivalent of 'ideas guy'. We had a lady at my work be the HelpDesk Sr. Manager Tier 4 support and she couldn't correctly spell anything in english despite being from america.
Only reason she was gotten rid of was because she quit after hating the position, not because we could actually fire her.
