It's mostly because farming becomes difficult the more north you go. We can live perfectly fine anywhere south of Nunavut with decent infrastructure but farming + the logistics of shipping all that food north is the biggest reason why everyone stays south

Yes you can make a living in just about every corner of the country, but many of the big cities, Toronto/GTA, Vancouver are sitting on the best ag land in the country, and it's all being paved over.

How big do you want the population to be? It seems big enough to me. But endless economic growth needs the immigration. And people want to escape shit situations/hope for a better one.

It is being paved over user, because people refuse to move away from it. Population density is too dense around that area and it's causing urban sprawl to accelerate more and more every year because literally everyone refuses to leave places like Toronto. The government could start placing new immigrants into smaller towns, but since you need a certain amount of wealth to immigrate they're choosing to live in these places and their children stay too, all while more and more people are coming in. Canada has a very small population for a country of it's size, and if we spread people out more it wouldn't seem so crowded.
