My neighbor friend's dad growing up was a toy designer for Kenner in the 80s and 90s. They always had the coolest, latest toys growing up.
I can remember playing with prototypes of this years before it came on the market. The neighborhood kids were the testers for the newest toys.
He also designed the original Star Wars toys. They had a shitton of originals in boxes in their basement that we weren't allowed to play with.

I've never seen it, but it wouldn't be hard to build. Problem is that you'd have to make the rail into the motor somehow since magnetic fields benefit massively from scale. Otherwise a faux maglev using normal trains would be fine.
