I have this fascination with antique American consumer products from a century ago that had the word "nigger", "coon", "tar baby" and "picaninny" on the packaging. How did we get so touchy over the years?

there used to be places named after them as well
"the Dead Negro valley."

Now we can't even buy a bottle of maple syrup with a black woman's face on the front of it anymore.

it almost certainly would have been "nigger" not "negro" originally, in 2003 the USGS did a ctrl+f and replaced all the places with nigger in the name and replaced it with negro

I would think having prominent designs featuring minorities would be a good thing

Not sure how old you are, but when I was growing up in the 80s, it was common and no big deal to refer to each other as "fags" or "retard" (social circles I mean).

I can only suppose from that experience, that back in the 19th century and early 20th, that "Nigger" was really just slang for "black person."

But in a weird sort of irony, the way the word "Nigger" evolved to be so taboo, is in a way just saying "you can't say nigger because it's bad (because it means black people)"...do you see what I'm getting at? By making a big deal of the word, they have now created a situation where the word makes the thing bad.

they cancelled aunt jemima and the land of lakes butter indian for being stereotypes, but the quaker oats white guy is fine
why? because NPCs are brain dead

I agree for different reasons than yours

I had an old copy of Little Black Sambo read to me as a kid and didn't find it weird or racist.
Nigger got a tiger to turn itself into butter, clever little fuck.

A normal person would think so, but these aren't normal people. The only faces left on products now are white people. We got rid of all the native american sports mascots, so the only ones we have left now are vikings, cowboys and greek or roman warriors - all white. Nobody talks about the fact that it's racist to put a viking on a helmet in an area where a bunch of Scandinavians originally settled, but again, these people don't have normal thought processes.

fag and retard were things we called each other just growing up in the early 2010s, the insanity is speeding up
as for nigger, first it was just what they were called, then it gained negative connotations so we changed it to negro, then that gained negative connotations so we changed it to blacks, then that gained negative connotations so we changed it to african americans. it seems like whatever we call these people will invariably pick up negative connotations, i wonder whats up with that?

My mom has this exact edition of this book.
