Genesis was seriously fucking weird, I feel like I should hate them on purpose because they're kinda pricks about everything, but they do have a valid point. It's funny how their songs ended up being parodies, yet paradoxically they're trying to pretend like they're not being a prick about it.

Phase 2 Genesis was so shamelessly commercial, which was almost celebrated in some circles. People that have Republica in their album collection based on semantics. People who read/see American Psycho for the tips on acting normal in public.
Anyway. They got hounded for it, but what was really a miracle was Peter Gabriel or Pink Floyd not getting the same exact shit for 30+ years.
Looking back, I still like Duke from start to finish. A lot of bands are lucky to stay alive and make one or two efforts of note after that sort of front man leaves the band.
