Mozilla threw away their code once (Netscape -> Gecko) and let Microsoft win.
Subunits of Firefox have been rewritten in Rust (like the CSS parser) but not the renderer.
Mozilla gave up on building a new renderer (Servo) on the side while maintaining Gecko. Can't do both. Can't get rid of Gecko and take 10 years to finish Servo.
It's over. Chrome won. Everyone else that even touches the Web has lost
