Why did this happen to detroit?

Bullshit. The sudden and massive influx of southern blacks in the 20th century brought with them waves of crime and violence that drove white people out.
Detroit’s white population went from 1.5 million to less than 60,000 in three generations as living conditions for whites were eroded by constant black hostility.
There is not one single city anywhere in the US that has moved from majority-white to majority-black and not ended up as a festering third-world shit hole.
The result was

Have a house that was once owned and cared for even if slightly.
Have banks take ownership and/or control.
No one wants to rent or those that do are more than scum.
Allow banks to skip on taxes but to sell with back taxes to be paid by new owner.
No one wants to pay back taxes on a house already neglected and needs work.
Houses sit empty or occupied by drug addicts, stripped of more shit.
House is no longer worth anything. No taxes collected over 6+ years. etc..

This is a problem with cities and townships when they dont have systems in place to keep a neighborhoods filled with residents that give a shit. Instead of taking the house, offering programs to assist with bringing up to standard at a loss in terms of cost over the long term, entire neighborhoods just die out and become crime infested because of short term money saving.

Better question: if that was Detroit in 2015, shouldn't it be completely consumed back down to fertile farm land by now? And for that matter, if these urban, single family homes really have been loosing all of their property value, why are they not just super affordable for any broke asshole who wants to invest in the dip?
