I have a 1 TB HDD in my laptop that's not working anymore. I got angry and hit my my keyboard and after a reboot it is no longer detected. I can see it in BIOS but not when I boot into the OS (arch). How do I go about troubleshooting the issue? I don't have much experience with hardware. Give me some general pointers.

idiot

>I got angry and hit my my keyboard and after a reboot it is no longer detected
You deserve this, you subhuman ape

Yeah yeah, i get what i deserve. Let's move on.

> Beat the shit out of my keyboard
> "how do i fix it?"

you are retarded and deserved to lose that money

well now it's time to buy an SSD. you can get a 1TB one for only $100. they're cheap af and i don't know why you didn't already have one. if you have really important data on the drive you can send it to some data recovery service but you gotta have deep pockets for that.

I do have a ssd that i boot my OS from. The hdd was just for storage, and i do have some important data on it. I was just wondering if there is any way to troubleshoot it because i don't think the disk it self is damaged, maybe just the connections, etc. I can see the disk in BIOS, but it won't show at all in OS which is odd. I'd expect it to at least be detected by the OS as well, just not work or throw some error.

unironically try unplugging the drive and plugging it back in. maybe it got loose or something.

What you did is called a head strike and you destroyed the recording surface your HDD and likely the read head as well. In picrel, the ring carved into the surface of the platter is the damage caused by the head strike

seethe controller board for your HDD is still functioning. However, due to the head strike, the drive is no longer functional. The mechanical parts have been damaged. The drive is in a fail-safe mode to prevent destruction of more data sectors in the platter. You can have the undamaged sectors recovered for a few thousand dollars. The damaged sectors are lost forever and unrecoverable.
As others have said, you are an absolute moron and you deserve what you get.

Yeah i did but no luck

Wow yeah in that case I really fucked up.

yeap. You should probably give up on computers because your are more like a gorilla. Perhaps you are a negro?

Nope, viking descendant.
But yeah i fucked up, i get it.

>viking descendant
literally the same as a nigger

Makes sense.

>You can have the undamaged sectors recovered
And he won't because of the illegal pornography he probably stashes

I won't because the cost of a new drive is less than the recovery and I can always redownload all my illegal pornography.

>How do I go about troubleshooting the issue?
Hit it again

OP please try this
>blah blah mechanical failure
>blah blah blah physically damaged the disk
WHATEVER!
Hit it again, what do you have to lose?

I intend on connecting the drive to a PC when I go back home to see if i can run any diagnostics software on it first. If it really is dead, sure, I will hit it again.

Easy. Put the hdd in a fridge, let it cool down, then when its all frozen up take it out, put it in a plastic bag, connect it, and there you go. You just got a small window though so don't expect everything to be copied when you back up

Bro i may be dumb, but i'm not that dumb.

why
your mommy didn't buy you tendies?

Was trying to decipher c++ template compiler warnings but they are so SHIT it just made me mad. Didn't even hit the keyboard all that hard desu.

>I didnt't hit her
>It was just a slap.

You have to be thankful, that your laptop can not actually testify in /g court.

>How do I go about troubleshooting the issue?
Get some self control.

YAY!
