That’s a massive reach. Britain allowed you to lease bases on their colonies (Britain actually did have an empire), which will expire in your lifetime. How is it an empire, you didn’t take anywhere over. You’ve never won a real war by yourselves. But if it’s in everyone’s interests, its not really something to flex is it. US money and weapons acts as a deterrent, that’s what Taiwan is relying on, its what Japan relies on. Japan in particular needs cutting away from historical restrictions so they form their own legitimate fighting forces to counter China
