Is sparc dead?

Is sparc dead?
I found a cute sun server on ebay to play around with. I have a few questions:
>What can I install on it?
>What software is compatible with this cpu arch?
>Can I run a minecraft server for my homies?

even java is deprecated on sparcsolaris ^.^

really?

SPARC is literally the future.
It will be replacing PPC, x86, ARM, and RISC-V
You can run Debian, Gentoo, FreeBSD, NetBSD, and OpenBSD on it

no one gives a shit about solaris

>SPARC is literally the future.
If it's the future why Oracle is abandoning it?

>What can I install on it?
gentoo
>What software is compatible with this cpu arch?
actually looking up random packages it doesn't look like much is supported
>Can I run a minecraft server for my homies?
it doesn't look like java is available in gentoo's sparc port

>Is sparc dead?
yeah, but who cares. solaris is still supported for decades to come and hobbyist autism operating systems will continue to do so for years afterwards.
>>What can I install on it?
Solaris, BSDs and some Linux distros, just go with Solaris honestly.
>>What software is compatible with this cpu arch?
most of your usual Unix/Linux mainstays
going with Solaris specifically will give you access to a bit more commercial abandonware as well as support for assorted Sun/Oracle proprietary shit that might be fun to play with like Sun Rays.
>Can I run a minecraft server for my homies?
software-wise yep but if it's an older system it will probably choke. I tried running a server with a bunch of mods on my Fire T1000 long ago and it took like 40 minutes to start up.

no it’s a joke

bad bait or schizophrenic I really can't tell
legacy slowlaris applications and other proprietary shit are about the only things that kept SPARC on life support for as long as it was, nobody actually paying money for that hardware was doing it to run Gentoo or OpenBSD.

Sparc still works and is so old it is probably free from backdoors.

Sparc is what china uses on their supercomputers

If it's 32 bit you may be able to install NeXTSTEP

Is there still a NeXTSTEP community that writes new software for it similar to the early OSX community?

if it exists then it's full of furries and trannies

So just like Linux?

much worse
like plan9 community

>furries and trannies
I can't decide which one of those is worse?

Former Sun Solaris admin here.

Sun used to have OpenSolaris.

If you can find it, you could run that on your server.

it's dead... :(
