Why would anyone use a non LTS or rolling ubuntu release? Do people like having a large almost total package reinstall every 6 months or are they wiping there disks and reinstalling biannually?
Thomas Martin
IIRC the in-between LTS Ubuntu releases aren't really for average users, which the LTS ones are. They're more so testing grounds for different features that will appear in the next LTS.

Trying to install Gentoo for the first time, and im getting "illegal instruction" when running "emerge --ask app-portage/cpuid2cpuflags". is it better if i just completely restart the install?
Jace Rodriguez
Yes, I wipe my disk and reinstall biannualy, how did you know?
>Why would anyone use a non LTS or rolling ubuntu release? They work great as live environments since it's a very recent software stack. Also for testing stuff like translation completeness so that missing translations can be addressed before the next LTS.

I need to torrent something but I just switched to mint. What are the basic internet condoms I need to be safe with linux every search I get brings me to ad filled articles with useless pictures of people smiling confidently with crossed arms. Seeing irrelevant bullshit just makes me mad.

how do i make my Ubuntu Server enter Standby Mode when its inactive?
Ryan Russell
Just having UBO in your browser is basically enough. Also torrenting is the same anywhere. Just get qBit and you're on your way.
Oliver Hall
Thanks user.
Aiden Williams
Install Adblocker lol. Have always torrented without protection on different connections with mint and haven't gotten into trouble (yet). That said, probably just get a shitty vpn

Why would you want to run 2 year old software with bugs that have been fixed years ago?
Connor Smith
if you mean standy mode in the same way as desktops you could right a script to put into standby when not underload but why would you want too? When in standby it won't receive or send data so youd have to walk over and wake it up when ever you want to use it. Kinda defeats the purpose of a sever
Jordan Morgan
You really only get in trouble if you torrent some new modern movie if you don't have a VPN.

newfag to linux here, coworker (and windows) convinced me to try freeshit
