Imagine 95% of those interested in playing games are men (from experience it might be even higher, but that's a rough estimate). If 1% of them transition then that's enough to make 16% of gamer girls trans. Given how loud and outspoken they tend to be, they're going to come across as a much greater proportion.
Let's also remember that autism correlates with both too. I recall that people with autism are somewhere in the region of 10-20 times more likely to transition - if we assume 30% of gamers are autistic then you might expect 3-6% of gamers to identify as trans women... at which point they would outnumber real women.

I tried that too for a while, and I realized that a lot of these women are just USING the hobbies for their own interests, particularly playing on the fact that men are genuinely into them (such as comic books) and using the men to buy the things/services FOR them (like having a man buy her a $30 omnibus of Sailor Moon manga that she could buy herself, but would financially cripple her). Consider how women have done a complete 180 between now and, say, 2014, when they used to hate anime/vidya and berate grown men for still being into them; now, these same women are out here, cosplaying, wearing the shirts, and going on and on about the latest episodes of MHA or Jujutsu Kaisen on YouTube while getting 'contributions' from sweaty dudebros who are just so happy that women are 'finally into what they're into.'
