what provider is it

RCN based around the U.S great lakes states

What I actually asked him to do was put a shoe on his head.

Nothing is safe.
Prepare for what must come.

What do you mean by direct download? Like from a filelocker site? Megaupload? What domain were you downloading from that they flagged you?

Was it over https?

bump. OP please post some more info. or are you a troll working for the MPAA?

It seems to me that unless you were DLing from some sort of media-owner-controlled honeypot source, there's no way for the infringed party to know what you were doing. Why would your ISP turn you in anyhow?

Torrents are a different matter because your use is exposed publicly.

OOOOOO PPPPPPlease

nice try isp guy

https, like from a YIFI website

I guess YIFI websites are honeypots now. What about streaming sites?

>YIFI
So you're "direct downloading" a torrent file, then running that torrent? Is that what you mean by "direct download"?

No, I mean there are some YIFI websites that just let you download the movie off their own servers

>I guess YIFI websites are honeypots now
I don't think so Tim. Need a lot more evidence than this rando on 4chin to make that call.

I think maybe you're being scammed.

First of all, it's YIFY, not YIFI.

Second, I don't believe you. What domain has actual downloads and not torrent files? Are you sure you didn't click a torrent file?

Who owns the domain that got you flagged for this alleged direct download? Is it an MPAA shell company? If not, what you say happened, simply did not happen.

I'm not necessarily saying you're lying... just that you're mistaken about something. Or you're lying.

Those direct download links are just fake click bait for advertisements.

VPNs do work, they are vulnerable to judicial requests and/or nsa traffic analysis for crimes way more serious than pirating a movie
what you did wrong was reuploading what you torrented in full, you became a "publisher" of stolen material
if you torrent a lot, try to interrupt what you're sending before it completes, and let other seeders finish the files, the snooping clients won't have enough to file a dmca complaint to your provider

>My ISP sent me a DMCA because I thought direct downloads were safe.
There are a couple possibilities here.
1. You think you were "direct download"ing, but you were actually torrenting
2. You were direct downloading from a honey pot owned by the copyright holder... this has never been seen in the wild before, so you're the first!
3. If your direct download was HTTPS, there's honestly nothing even your ISP can see. However, I have seen a lot of filelocker sites lately that are https for the interfact, but give you a straight HTTP link to actually download. If there's some sort of weird new collusion between ISPs, File Locker sites, and copyright holder consortium, then we're living in new dark times. I haven't seen anything like this though, so I'm saying either you're full of shit or you're mistaken about what went down.

>Do VPNs actually work?
They just mask you via https so your ISP doesn't know where you are. Your VPN does though, so it only protects you as far as you trust your VPN provider.

>I want one now.
This makes me think this whole post is just an add for VPN services.

This man has lost his fucking mind. No wonder he hated trump so much.

It won't work if you use torrents or direct download sites. I've gotten a few DCMAs and I used a VPN. It wasn't a shitty VPN either.
I mean... It's not 100% anonymous, and it's almost definitely dangerous, but if you're at all familiar with TOR there are some good onions for what you want will not brick your PC or get detected by your ISP.
Just make sure you're careful because TOR has a lot of shady shit and not just the obvious. If you download a larger file from a less reputable onion there is a good chance you'll brick your PC.

How could anyone be so mean to our beloved GEOTUS?!
