It works well when there's no constraints, smaller filesizes and no trade-off in quality.
People calling for x265 and AV1 for webm on Any Forums clearly don't know how it works. AV1/x265 WEBM will look worse than x264 in most cases. As soon as you start imposing limits such as bitrate/filesize it goes to shit.

spending 2 hours on my ryzen 5800 to render a 20 minute video.

YIKES

the fuck are you talking about, webm only supports vp8/vp9/av1

currently Any Forums only allows vp8 because the zipperhead on top says so

vp9 and especially av1 webms are obviously much better than vp8, at the same file size

and a svt webm encode can be faster than a good vp8 encode

for h264/265 videos they'd have to use mp4 or mov containers (other image boards let you post that just fine and if your shit device/browser can't play it, sucks to be you)

that was libaom encoder
libsvtav1 encoder is fast.

SVT-AV1 (libsvtav1) is an encoder originally developed by Intel in collaboration with Netflix. In 2020, SVT-AV1 was adopted by AOMedia as the basis for the future development of AV1 as well as future codec efforts. The encoder supports a wide range of speed-efficiency tradeoffs and scales fairly well across many CPU cores.

>vp9 and especially av1 webms are obviously much better than vp8
You are wrong. AV1 only really works when there's no restrictions. It's true that in most cases vp8 will look better.

What are those restrictions? I just threw libsvtav1 on some uncompressed files and they were all better compressed and looked significantly better than with vpx/vp8.

>yfw no apple soc can decode av1

This shit again.

I tried it but it's shit unless you let it use giant file sizes

simplescreenrecorder has svtav1 in the codecs list now, and doesn't seem to have much trouble recording webm real time.

lmao mpeg shills in full force i see. first you''ve lost the rights over mp3 which went open, now all your proprietary video codecs are suddenly irrelevant.
