>successful art school grad
is it really that good? I was expecting to get slammed here. All my friends and family are just yeasayers because obviously they won't slag it off.
i wasnt in the mood to help anyone out tonight but if you want to post more i can give a little crit.
you need about 9-13 pieces for a college entry portfolio. you may or may not be able to produce a professional portfolio with what you have now
It has a unique vibe user. I think that's one of the most important things an artist can have. Highly trained artists are a dime a dozen, but few actually resonate with me. This does something. It's dreamlike. I'm sure there are technical aspects you can grow in over time, but that will come with experience if you just keep working on your art.
id like to know what stage youre at in your career and what kind of feedback becasue the longer i look the more i think you already have more than the fundamentals covered and have already discovered your voice. also personally i really like your surreal/dark/storybook aesthetic
He needs to paint a lot more niggers and trannies to be accepted
I'm 23 turning 24 and I'm kind of stuck doing a graphic design course I'm feeling meh about. Have learnt plenty of marketable skills I use for jobs but universities in general are pretty hostile environments.
Highly politicised course content, other zoomers are totally antisocial/no friends there etc... Now that you mention it I feel like art school could be an environment I'd thrive in, but even those schools are full of troll dolls protesting against white men in the arts and shit. I guess I just came of age in the worst time for someone like me to be an artist.
theres no worst time to be an artist. the worse it is the better for business. youre old enough to skip the institution, especially if youve been around graphic design program. though different than illustration, the professional trajectory is similar. im calling you an illustrator despite you just genuinely making art because thats where youll be most successful. dont try to make a living selliing artwork in a gallery. create unique pieces and market yourself like an illustrator/designer, which is much more professional than a regular fine artist; instagram page isnt going to cut it. but where your work is now with no exaggeration or changes needed could be editorial, book cover, album, storybook, all easily. in addition to your commercial work (above) continue to produce (and document/post) your own projects whether its a book (collaboration with a writer) or a print series, or publication in a magazine.
you dont need the academic system where youre at, just need a decent body of work and to use your graphic design skills to brand yourself as the fresh and interesting illustrator on the market that you are
