Your worst malware story

Reminisce on the worst or most dramatic time you got infected with malware
Alternatively could be you accidentally infecting someone elses computer or one you witnessed (in person)
Me:
>2008
>Dumbass kid
>Torrenting game .exes that are 10MB thinking it's compression magic
>Other dodgy shit
>Have Trend Micro at the time which doesn't even work properly, shows alerts but didn't prevent attacks.
>Half of the files on my desktop get deleted (didn't even seem to be a particular file type, just half my files)
>From that point on getting redirects and popups
>Massive slowdown for an already slow as fuck computer, most things are so slow can't even open most programs.
>Probably got the BSOD on startup
>Eventually have to reinstall XP

>2000
>Day after y2k
>Wake up
>Scared to turn on computer
>Turn it on
>It werks
>Cant click on any desktop icon
>Cant click on any toolbar or Windos TM logo
>Wat do
>ask brother, he laughs tells it doesnt work
>Cry go outside
>Go back
>See him play on computer
>WTF
>How?
>He screenshoted the desktop and disabled icons and toolbar

Fucking older brother malware

>I was trying to install a pirated version of a software.
>Got adware that was hard to remove.
>And Chinese spyware
At the time it was very scary bro.
Based intelligent brother.

>December 2010
>Using Windows XP
>Browsing Demonoid for games
>Notice updated Super Meat Boy torrent
>Blindly download it and install it
>Notice in my network monitor shoots up instantly after I launch the EXE
>Constant network traffic
>Run Malwarebytes
>8329589235 infections
>A day later check torrent again
>Someone comments it contains "Blackshades RAT" (botnet)
>Wipe PC
>Still paranoid about malware, constantly checking netstat
>In June 2011 I install Ubuntu
>Never use Windows again, get good with security
>Still using Linux today, but I use Fedora 36 KDE

>search engine changes
>don't care

>Use computer
>See chromium installed even though I didn't install it.
>Has a weird logo
>Go online and search about it
>It's a "virus"

>2002
>Be on Kaaza
>Download Eminem_Has_Sex_With_Britney_Spears_XXX_Real_Hardcore_Fucking_Big_Boobie_Party_Sexy_Assfuck_Fantasy_Cumshot.jpg.exe
>Click it
>Nothing happens
>Go to delete the file
>Can't be deleted, some weird error about filename being too long
>Download bunch of tools that claim to be able to force delete a file
>Those fail
>Look up how to delete a file manually in command prompt
>Try it
>File goes away then reappears
>All .jpgs on my hard drive are now duplicates of said file
>computer now runs at like 10% normal speed, cursor laggy etc
>desktop background becomes plain black
>icons all glitchy and shit, disappearing/reappearing
>default sounds playing all over the place without me doing anything

at least this was just on my computer
I think I actually tried to keep using the shit for like a week before eventually reinstalling windows lol

Now I get why Linux user are bad at using windows.

When you could have just switched to Macingtosh O.S. X. Shame!!!!

no i was just retarded back then

>26 April 1999
>Turn on computer to play games
>Windows doesn't boot, computer dead
>What the hell? Alert parents
>They assume i broke it, start to investigate
>I have to go to school
>Parents come pick me up in the evening after school
>"user, it was actually the Chernobyl virus, today is the anniversary since the disaster"
>Go back home, my dad and a friend are running antivirus scans late in the night
>computer works the next day, things are wiped but function

This was before we ever had the internet and it was my first proper experience with a virus. My guess is the infection most likely came from a pirated games CD

>Go to random website
>Close site
>more windows appear
>keep closing windows
>more appear
>gets very loud
>get's scared turn off PC
>malware disappears

>2013
>dumbass kid too
>torrent vidya
>give admin rights to installer
>next boot mail.ru opens at start in browser
>3d porn game ads plastered on the screen
>didn't want to or care enough to wipe and re install the system
>learned about the HOSTS file on Windows and blocked mail.ru

Should've been using an AV with a live scanner or scanned it first though.

it was obfuscated so the scanner wouldn't have detected it until later

We did this in the school computer lab all the time.

>be me
>2010 or something, kid
>mom's computer gets a virus on it
>dad shuts down everything, even removes the NIC driver
>be me, today
>think that virus was just some adware fake antivirus thing

Was the sound going "YOU ARE AN IDIOT A A AH AH AA AH AH AAaaaaAAAH"?

same thing
one day i turned on my computer and found chromium and brave installed

Oh man, I fucked up my computer's family so bad by playing those adware games like "click faster to give the banana to the monkey", along with trojan horses and other shit when I was a kid. I wasn't allowed to get near a computer for a year.

>2008 or something
>want a free piece of CSGO
>keygen exe
>it was just a porn ad spamming malware
>?
>nothing that MBAM wouldn't nuke and destroy

Didn't realise that winrar was an infinite trial and that 7zip existed.
Download winrar off isohunt
Fucked up virus that destroyed my PC.
Bunch of fake rogues installed
Popups everywhere
Files deleted
Emails hacked
AV detecting like a thousand pieces of malware.
I wonder what sort of malware was this. A worm? a Trojan Dropper?
