What game was your introduction to RPG's?
Was it FF7, for me a gem called Shining Force.
What is good nowadays, watching a streamer play Elden Ring. It's entertaining.

Bonus points for pics

Depends on your definition of RPG. I played Zelda first on the NES, later Final Fantasy and various on the PS1.

whoa. i just started getting into Shining Force this week. it's on that shitty sega genesis collection on steam. i got bored of modern games, so i fired it up. decided to get the achievements, even though i never gave a shit about achievements in any game ever. i do the challenge and achievement and get to that city and i'm hooked. keep playing it. are the sequels just as good? any tips?

but to answer your question, i played final fantasy on nes, phantasy star on genesis, but i didn't really know how to play it, i was too young and dumb. it was pokemon on gameboy... actually i'm not really an RPG guy, so... yeah, shining force is pretty sweet.

>introduction
I'd have to say a toss-up between Illusion of Gaia, FFIII (VI), and Zelda: A Link to the Past. Oddly enough, I can't say I've ever truly beaten an RPG in my life except maybe like 2-3 Zelda games and Pokemon Green/Red/Yellow through X/Y.

I tried some of the early Final Fantasy series but I'm '87 so I was too young to really enjoy RPG-type skill leveling, and found the turn based rather boring.

Final Fantasy 7 actually was the one. It hooked me with the story and then after forcing myself to learn the system so I could keep going forward it started making sense. Eventually even became fun. Since then some real standouts for me were Skies of Arcadia, FF8, a few others.

>pokemon red
>super mario rpg
>shining force
>paper mario
These four games convinced me that all rpgs are good. My next was chrono trigger. It's funny because I got sega smash pack and thought shining force would be the worst game. Boy was I wrong.

I played Shining Force II first. It was good, except I was so stuck so often.

Only had PC as a kid, I'd say either runescape and/or the start wars dark forces games.

The 2nd Shining Force is the best. Keep medical herbs in inventory. Collect Mithral. Use Aura II for the monks to get 25 exp a move

STILL hoping for a sequel...

Nice.

Legend of Zelda was my introduction, not just to RPGs but games overall. Terranigma got me into RPGs though, and it led me to find Illusion and go from there.

Any body mess with RPG Maker?

I really want to get back into all of it. Everyone's going on about Breath of the Wild and Elden Ring, while I haven't beaten a single Zelda game since Twilight Princess for Wii.

I thought about it, is it smooth brain friendly?

It was either FF7 or Fallout 1, I can't remember which was first.

Download and mess around. It's point and click. You can make levels, and towns, and it's fun to mess around with. If you can use a computer you can figure it out. Just watch youtube vids on it and you can create.

So many long lost epics on long lost harddrives. Not a single one ever finished making either.

I still go back to them all every now and then over the years. Usually just on emulators now, but in different ways they're all still great. Sometimes it's more nostalgia, sometimes it's cause they're genuinely still good (Like Terranigma or FO2) - but I've never regretted starting any of them up again. Good times.

First was Legend of Zelda on Nintendu. This one however, is the pinnacle of RPG. Even with the cursed 2nd disk.

Use to love that shit. I would import a bunch of ff sprites and just mess around all day

I'm playing Dying Light 1 and loving it. Anyone?

It's based on DnD. You have a party of different characters (whom you get to choose who and what classes). Different characters have different roles on and off the battlefield. For an N64 game the world is MASSIVE with lot's of characters and side quests. The combat is turn based and semi-open, allowing for characters doing combos. It is clunky though. The limitations of the N64 show compared to modern games.

Sppokie zoombies scare me!

They're just living impaired individuals.
