There are only four ways you can handle this
>Old method of making a capcom sequel, you pay full or somewhat less then full for a bunch of new characters and maybe a rebalance and some new modes/stages or something. Catching up requires buying the latest game but early adopters have to keep buying the same game over and over.
>DLC seasons that continue to grow over time until you end up with most of the roster being dlc. Catching up requires buying the game + all the dlc while people playing from the start just have to get smaller dlc cost as it comes up.

Here's the thing you FGCucks always like to ignore. Back then? The extra versions were optional. Couch versus meant that you and your friends would just play whatever version someone had and if nobody got the new one? Well so be it.
