shouldve fell for the W530 meme

Literally just buy a T420 or 30 and a T480. Endgame for me.

Reputable sellers for CPUs? Looking to buy an x60 CPU. How much should I expect for it?

Sorry, I meant motherboard

Entirely depends on the market, you might be able to find one cheap. I would strongly recommend only buying one if it has a 64-bit CPU (T5500/T5600/T7200).

i would get a Zbook instead of an elitebook, but both of them are fine.
dell precisions, and to a lesser extent Zbooks. as with thinkpads, the newer ones are worse with a few exceptions to the rule. the m4/6800 has a better keyboard than the t440p

I use X1 and it is very good, I would recommend it. Very good performance, great screen and keyboard second to none

Aren't all Core 2 Duo's 64bit, and Core Duo's 32bit?

Yes, but the X60 had a mix of both C2D and CD CPUs.

which x1?

>as with thinkpads, the newer ones are worse with a few exceptions to the rule
Which ones are the exceptions?

looking for a new laptop and I've found a 5th gen X1 going for sale around 380 Euro.
i5 6300u/8GB RAM/240GB nvme
Is it worth or should I keep looking?

thank god I went for the x220 haha. it's better than I expected even

Just bought a t470 to replace a 7 year old MacBook that can't hold battery for more than 30s. With a well maintained Linux distro and probably a new battery, it should last me a good 5-7 years again.

Was looking at the new MacBook Air machines but for literally 1/6th of the price I've got a t470 that'll do all I need

just checked the invoice and it says

NB TP X1C G8 I7 16G 1T 10P

the p5x workstations are pretty solid and powerful. they're very good if you're looking for a thinkpad that's still modern and has relatively powerful graphics, for work or gayming, while sharing the i/o, build quality and expandability of older machines, although if i remember correctly the cpu and gpu are soldered. they tend to be a little overpriced though, and of course, you can't go wrong with buying a t420/30 either so it's up to (you).

So this guy managed to me_clean a T480. Sorta.

And then this guy unlocked an Advanced Menu on a T480. (But then never followed up on it years later.)

I REALLY don't understand how any of this got past Intel Boot Guard, but if it's theoretically possible, I won't look a gift horse in the mouth. Given its popularity, is it reasonable to get a T480 now/soon and expect the community to grow into modding it in the coming years? Technicaly I don't need more than a T420/T440p, I just want that same level of performance at a lower TDP and with suppport for higher resolution displays.

>T480 i7-8650u, 256gb m.2, 16gb, igpu
>Laptop and 1 external monitor, certain windows when moved lag like HWINFO
>Laptop and 2 external monitors, videos or streams would stutter and youtube videos only auto to 360p
Anyone know what is causing the stutter and lock to 360p?

On ubuntu 22.04, Should I run a w520 with nvidia optimus enabled in BIOS? Or discrete graphics? Or integrated graphics?

Should I also use proprietary nvidia driver? Not a freetard just care about good performance, keeping the laptop from running hot, minimal screen tearing, etc
