There's two problems with what you said. One, he was attacked by whites, so claiming white supremacy, is ironic. Two, regardless of who attacked him, should he not have defended himself? Furthermore, if you would argue that he should have defended himself with a more benign weapon, then that still would have constituted defence, which is why you're calling him a white supremacist.
