There's a reason they did it to Lord of the Rings. It's not because the series is still popular enough to spend hundreds of millions on a show and rights to it. It's because LOTR is a perfect analogy of the nature of evil and the forces of good fighting evil.
The ring of power is all about man's greed, not for riches, but ultimately for power. Sauron is a tool of evil, the end result of succumbing to power hunger. He tempts the entire world with promises of power through their own rings. Then the beautiful free world of middle earth falls, or almost does if it wasn't for the last forces of good. It's all an illusion. It's what is happening across the world right now. The leaders of the world are being tricked into thinking they're on the ride for power along with whatever evil force is behind them. Once the systems are in place all those leaders will be killed off and the world will fall to dictatorship. It happens to all free societies over time. Stand up to evil before it's too late
