Everyone hates journalists, it's making me not want to be a journalist anymore
I'm almost finished with my degree, and the way that people on Any Forums talks about journalists has actually got me completely rethinking my career choice. I used to think I could take the criticism, but I seriously doubt it now that I've seen it. I've only seen people talk about terrorists and rapists in the same way that they talk about journalists! Anyone else having any life changing thoughts right now? Good outcomes and bad welcome! Change the subject entirely if you need to. I just wanted to type it out so it's not just in my head.

It's a tough industry and a tough time to be doing this work. The flipside is there's a huge need for people who are smart, and passionate, and curious. Really is a public service job. I graduated in 2018 and have been working as a staff writer since then. Best of luck, user.

It used to be a respected profession with decent enough pay. Now they pay you pennies for paragraphs and don't even hire editors. One of the absolutely first things you learn as a journalist is that not all sources are the same, and that some sources can neither be trusted nor referred to. The problem is that most journalists are terrible, and most major news outlets are just propaganda arms for the two major political parties (CNN and MSNBC for the Democrats, Fox for the Republicans). In terms of newspapers, it's the NYT and WaPo for the Dems and WSJ and Washington Examiner for the Repubs.
So just don't work for a news outlet that's going to turn you into a reader of talking points for the government-military-media-industrial complex. People generally don't hate real journalists who do the shit journalists are supposed to do like uncovering corruption and reporting on the shit the elites do to us.
