tbf New World was a huge undertaking and a pretty stupid decision
trying to develop an MMO is already very difficult, and by a studio with no prior experience just because they have a ton of money to throw at something, was a risky move that couldn't have gone well
the reason WoW was so tremendously successful is because it already had a fully fleshed out series with lore around it all, a relatively successful company with experienced developers, and loyal fans
trying to make an MMO from the ground up with nothing else to offer and no ideas is always a fucking disaster, it's magnitudes harder to properly develop an MMO than any other kind of game

well I don't know everything about the developers and all that, but Warcraft was already successful, it was just expanded upon and made into something that I consider special
still gives me nostalgia too, no other game makes me feel the way WoW did, and nothing ever will
