Many objects working together to create widespread destrction

gunpowder + source of heat = boom
+gunpowder == +boom
handgun == +gunpowder
shotgun == +++++gunpowder
understand?

Shotguns shoot out a bunch of small pellets instead of a single bullet. From a distance it wouldn't cause that much damage because the pellets are too spread out (you get hit with less pellets), but up close they all hit you at the same time. It's like having 20-30 small bullets hit you at the same time in the same place

because at close range the pellets haven't had time to spread out so all of that kinetic energy is still condensed into a relatively small package bringing with it a walloping smack of power. at long range, the pellets have dispersed, so the energy is separated to the individual pellets. At closer ranges, all the mass is close enough to cause anything it hits to be disrupted in closer proximity. Not sure how this is hard to understand.

Yes thank you user, that is why also .50 cal is very destructive right?
Because have a lot of powder

Double aught (00) buckshot is .330" in diameter. You have 8 of them in the typical 2¾" shell. If the distance is right, you have a tight spread of 8 lead pellets coming at 1300 ft/sec on target at roughly the same time. If point blank, might as well use a slug or ball.

Bit why a slug?

Look up a term called "Hydrostatic shock".

Because at point blank, the shot won't have time to spread as summarized by

But it would also be deadly without making a mess with the slug?

There's 9 pellets in a typical 2 3/4" 12 gauge 00 buck shell.
It stacks neatly in 3x3 configuration.
That's what gives it a consistent spread pattern and why fudds swear by it.

the point of shot is to put a lot of holes into a very large thing.
Shotguns aren't made for killing humans.
A red deer can weigh upwards of 450lbs, if you want it to bleed out fast you've got to put holes into it.

My bad. Don't know why I wrote 8 instead of 9.

So shotguns where only designed for hunting and not wars user? And why slugs exist?
Very interesting btw

look at mr shotgun over here

A couple things, when its close to you more of the shot goes into you. Bullets cause death by breaking your organs through both putting holes in them which either goes through or causes problems, second they dissipate their energy inside your body which can rupture organs. If you get shot in a non-vital area it's exsanguination(blood loss).

no guns retard
ever heard of shotgun slugs?

>And why slugs exist?
Moose and bears don't like to die.

Shotguns are known for their shot. Slug is an option but its not what most people think of when they think shotgun.

Have you ever heard of Dutch or Rhodesian loads?
Slug or ball in front of buck or bird. Miss with the big one and the animal or human still gets smaller shot in the face. In the case of birdshot, it can blind the target.

maybe in whatever POS europoor shithole you live in

Yeah that sounds like something the rhodies would invent.

I live in america you pedantic shit.

>go birding, many small pellets
>go deer hunting, fewer larger pellets
>defend your home, high spread low penetration large pellets
>defend against bears, slugs
>be a nigger, slugs
There you go.

its a blast of metal pellets.
