Socialism has never worked because the idea functions off of the concept that the majority of people are decent & hard working, as well as assuming those in power will never become greedy somehow, seeing as how under socialist policies the government has more direct control over wealth. People like you point to historical examples of socialism and act like those are the exceptions, not real socialism, when they're the rule.

1) power corrupts- an elite class always grows out of it at the expense of the many.
