When I was in federal prison, we freely referred to niggers as "Canadians".
As in, those goddamned Canadians are dumber than monkeys in Africa.
Stupid fucking niggers never caught on, not once.
That doesn't make any sense. But okay.
It most certainly was, when I lived there.
s'wit
I'll explain it like you're 5:
"Canadian" was used to replace "nigger" in everyday conversation.
Why?
Because the niggers were too stupid to understand what was going on.
If it doesn't make sense now, nigger, then you must be from Canada.
American Black guy here, I've never heard us use similar words. I guess we predominantly see color and not nationality. We usually call people buy whatever they look like. But we do use "fresh off the boat" to refer to black, Asian and Hispanic immigrants.
Whites = Cracker/Hillbilly/Peckerwood
Hispanics = Juan, Pedro
Africans = Kunta Kinte
Asians = ???
Coward
Thats not clever, and its not offensive. Maybe thats why they didn't notice?
It's not. It just means "outside person" (外人) and is the shorter, less polite version of gaikokujin (外国人), meaning "foreign country person". Most people aren't actually offensed by it and a lot of foreigners in Japan even use it to refer to themselves.

The word "gringo" comes from the Scottish song "Green Grow the Rashes O". When the Scottish army was marching into Mexico, their soldiers sang "Green grow the rashes, o, green grow the rashes, o" and it sound like "gringo the rashes". Henc the name gringo.
The word gringo originally referred to any kind of foreigner. It was first recorded in 1787 in the Spanish Diccionario castellano con las voces de Ciencias y Artes
After they heard the Scottish men marching to Green Grow the Rashes O
