What were the good old days of the internet like, before it got flooded with braindead niggercattle?

I remember the days before the www, using lynx to access sites. If you weren't part of an edu/gov you had to dial into a bbs or something to access the greater net. There was what I called the great filter, you would only be able to access the internet if you spent the time learning how to. Less than 1% of the population was on the internet, no commercial entities and you thought you were part of some secret club. People back then were anonymous, you would not think of using your real name or send a picture of yourself so readily and you had a handle you used. The average IQ of the net was much higher back then, usually only subject matter experts gave their opinion on things.

You could go on some forums and be entertained and have fun discussions for hours. Photoshop threads where people frequently contributed original content. Search engines actually worked and brought you to interesting websites that didn't just exist to generate ad revenue or spam Amazon referral links. Identity politics hadn't been invented yet.

It took like 5 hours to download a single song from audiofind

Nakadashi

if you have to ask, you are one of them

I had to call the operator at US Robotics Co. and ask her to plug me in the "tubes" (that's what we called it back then) and had to specify for how long (in minutes, up to 64 at a time).

>good old days of the internet
There were never any good ol' days.
Before, the internet was the wild west with the possibility of getting infected with a virus that could render your computer useless at literally every click.
Browsers and antivirus were so compromised that even accessing basic HTML 2.0 web pages could fuck you in the ass.

I don't know about other anons, but the snail's speed of analog internet made me tear the hairs out of my head. It was so damn slow that downloading a single low quality music file could take several hours, if not days depending on where the hosting server was located.

Forget about downloading games, most of the pirate game pages had such poor quality standards that they often became virus distributors without even knowing it.

One of the good things about the old internet is that it was very expensive, hard to connect and harder to browse, so there weren't as many idiots as nowadays because even accessing the web required more than room temperature IQ (in Celsius).
The search engines were also better, but only because they weren't censored and the world wasn't filled with faggots.

I remember downloading some screener of The Fellowship of the Ring after watching it in theater. File was like 1 gb, shit literally took weeks to download.

Eventually we had "the guy" in town who had some crazy high speed internet and knew how to download and burn games (probably from some mIRC channel). I'd go to his place once in a while and he'd give me a printed list of the games he had available and asked 5$ to burn it on a CD. Glorious masterpieces like Myth, Worms Armageddon and Hidden and Dangerous.

Freer and much more intelligent, but the porn was worse.

>guy who had high speed internet and knew how to download and burn games and asked 5$ to burn it on a CD.
Exactly the same as me.
If I wanted a game and didn't have the money to buy it, I had to go to a dude's house who had reasonable internet speed and ask him to pretty please download it and burn it to a CD. He only asked for $4~5 and a blank CD to burn the game on.

The CD burning guys, unsung heroes of the past.

Windows 95 really got fucked with malware

What was the year the first sissy hypno released?

>bbs literally requesting a full name to register
>lots of college and job email addresses with full names
Are you sure you aren't LARPing?

Gosh, you got me remembering my friend that used to do the same shit as your friend used to do but I wasn't really charged for 5$ bucks since I usually stayed with my friend and we play the games that he burn.

Windows 95 was the best operating system out there, sadly it does have malware and it got doubled-fucked by malware.

not much different from today if you discount social networks

>Eventually we had "the guy" in town
>I'd go to his place once in a while
sounds gay af

you weren't posting here yet

What the fuck are you talking about. IRC, Usenet, BBS's were all handles and had the most traffic for socializing, you didn't use your email address to access those. I'm assuming you must be from a third world country, the internet was pretty much the US and Europe back then.

You don't know precisely because you're part of the "braindead niggercattle" you complain about.
