After 6 years of lurking, trying and failing…
Can i now in Any Forumsentoomens club?!
Gentoo
no, but you can join the "i fell for the meme" club
i dont care im proving myself that im not a dumbfuck and that i can read the fucking manuals.
Why would you even WANT to be here?
how the fuck do you even fucking fail to install gentoo
only Arch chads are allowed in the Any Forumsentlemens sekrit club!
no. there's no real future in gentoo today. funtoo is attractive; slackware is my current distro-hop on laptop. usually it's arch, but I broke pacman like a bonehead.
>partial updates are unsupported
been using it for years off-and-on and used it like dpkg/apt on accident.
gentoo is great on my desktop, but it's not enough these days. USE flags are too powerful and the systems aren't super-reproducible without building your own stages with catalyst. catalyst is the release engineering tool; it's super-undocumented.
the idea behind USE flags needs to be more expressive. I envision something like slackware's tooling and might fuck off to sourcemage soon.
jokes on you - i jumped from Ubuntu, Manjaro and Debian straight to Gentoo (its not that fucking hard if you actually use your brain)
joke's on you, that doesn't prove anything except being able to do the initiation.
in all honesty - after lurking here for 6 years lmao

>that taskbar
bruh what's up with Any Forums zoomies.
how does it take you 6yrs to install gentoo. I literally did it when I was 15yrs old and i even got it to run enemy territory that I then played with the gentoo group. i'm 36 btw and I still gotta look at a guide for various linux commands even on debian.
>i'm 36 btw and I still gotta look at a guide for various linux commands even on debian.
are u shiting me - i thought you guys were the real hackermen who have everything in their heads and shit wtf
>my whole life was a lie
youll go back to using debian just like i did
Meh I left Debian after 15 years and moved to Gentoo a year ago. I'm not going back to Debian.
This is an ATM distro. I also fell for the meme, it was interesting and "fun" at first but after you set up USE flags and get comfortable its pain in the butthole. I also get dependency hell and get fuckton of blocks like recently systemd-utils has to be installed and is blocked by something even though i run openrc and have -systemd use flag. Its pure hell and stops getting fun when you need/want some bigger program now, but have to wait 1-2 hours(6c/6t CPU)for it to finish compiling. Im contemplating switching to ubuntu/mint but thinking about migrating everything just gives me chills. I get literal headaches because of it. It isn't fun at all, unless you have 5950x with 32GB if RAM or threadripper. People market it as a holy distro for single core chinkpads which is irony on its own, yeah it is lightweight, but compiling anything takes hours or days
Also, how sid you split screen like this? Are those 2 seperate VMs? Is the same thing LTT did?
oh you will!
gentoo is the biggest meme, im sorry sorry user
>87166220
Not even worth a (you)
Good programmers/sys admins are experts at using google, not actually memorizing bunch of gibberish. You just have to know what youre doing while copy pasting.
>Also, how sid you split screen like this? Are those 2 seperate VMs? Is the same thing LTT did?
i have a pretty good monitor and it supports PiP mode so i dont need 2 separate monitors for 2 different devices.
Just go into your monitor settings (on the actual monitor, not like windows settings or something) and dig in the settings for a PiP mode
>jokes on you - i jumped from Ubuntu, Manjaro and Debian straight to Gentoo (its not that fucking hard if you actually use your brain)
I jumped from ubuntu to manjaro straight to arch, not that hard if you can read a wiki, the same goes for gentoo.
