what's the deal with Silicon Valley? have they produced anything of technological value in the last couple of decades? or is it all just a pyramid scheme of shitty attention stealing apps?
Silicon valley
they've made a lot of surveillance software
It's a money burning party where capital giants slowly destroy the human race.
it's super funny to me that SV enthusiasts are now fully ripping off quotes about hollywood lol
A bunch of morons who took great ideas from other people and assembled them to make the world and technology a worse place.
I don't know what SV does anymore, all the actual value in the tech industry is being created in India, Taiwan and Shenzhen, China.
I can't even buy flux core solder without ordering it from China, all the "local suppliers" just resell me the same Chinese shit but at a huge markup.
apple still creates value
>try to think of software released in the last 10 years that actually improved people's lives
>can't think of anything
Fuck, it's actually over isn't it bros?
When is the software industry going to collapse?
>designed in California
>made at Foxconn, Shenzhen
But in all seriousness, apple has done nothing but ship incremental updates to their products for 15 years.
Those SV residential backyard sheds and garages where people started entire SV companies are now $1.6 million dollars.
No worthwhile software is written in SV, it all gets offshoreed to Tata consultancy.
On that note, why is Netflix considered tech when they're basically the Hollywood establishment now?
the lame gimmick app/website stuff for consumers maybe.
Infrastructure, business, healtcare, IT solutions won't be going anywhere.
Name one software released in the last 60 years that actually improved people's lives.
email isnt really a specific piece of software, but i find that it has greatly benefited humanity. is there a lot of stuff out there like email? im of the opinion that "no" there isnt. does firmware count?
>Its just a mindset bro
Its just a paycheck
ms paint, winamp, lotus notes, icq, shockwave flash
It's just a bunch of dickhead bros trying to reinvent stuff, but worse and with limited functionality, with promises to patch it in later, which never happens because they go bust 18 months after the product ships. Meanwhile, they're all trying to get military contracts because they saw the opening half hour of Iron Man and didn't get the memo that Tony Stark is the bad guy at the begining of the film
They attract the brightest talents in the world to creating innovative new ways of making people click on ads.
It's the climate and restaurants, stoopid. VC's like to hang out there because of those and each other, so you have the best chances of getting funding. Metaverse and climate change will change that tho
not asking if they have money, just asking if they have done anything of value
I thought this was a stupid question at first, but I actually can't think of anything digital that has objectively improved humanity without also making it worse.
Of course you can list tools like vim and the coreutils but they are just means to an end, they have to produce something good to themselves be good
>con valley
>a mindset
>a location
Kek
well yeah duh practically the whole late/post-coldwar tech is from there including manufacturing and logistics advances
