How come both Xbox and PlayStation use AMD?

How come both Xbox and PlayStation use AMD?

it's better than anything else

isn't it because their drivers are open source and it makes it easier to work with

Better cost x benefit, specially when you can write your own drivers instead of depending on the AMD DirectX ones, or that atrocity that are the OpenGL drivers.

AMD offers semi-custom CPU solutions with integrated graphics to other companies.

Nvidia cards are all about power without caring about the energy needed to use them. AMD is more balanced

How come we can't get the same solution in a 600$ laptop?

Consoles are way bigger than laptops so cooling is much easier because there is way more space for ventilation

Real reason: Nvidia doesn't want to earn pennies on a dollar selling their technology and silicon to Microsoft and Sony.
Nvidia has over 80% of PC market share and sells $1500 GPU, meanwhile AMD sells complete CPU + GPU to console makers for less than $150.
AMD is really small compared to Nvidia and needs any kind of revenue they can get, they will gladly sell them their tech at small profits.

It's a 300w part look up laptops same thing
Also look up laptops with desktop parts

Still ultimately subjective
While possibly true, is not the reason
t. still learning Python

Ding ding ding!

Amd actually had their shit together when zen was in development 2016 when Ms and Sony where working on next gen
2020 rolled around zen2 and rdna 2 where cheap and mature enough to use as a mcm apu soc
I wish they'd make a zen4 Ddr5 console next year and dropkick Intel and nvidia

>dropkick
Fuck yeah man then like a spinning upper cut and fireball!

Because back when consoles started being basically just locked down PC's AMD was fucking DESPERATE to sell chips, it was getting slaughtered by Intel year after year and Intel didn't even have to move a finger to compete.

Because consoles have big ass coolers and their cost is subsidized, retard.

>dropkick
>Fuck yeah man then like a spinning upper cut and fireball!
Then HAAAAAAAAAAAHUUUUUUURRRRRRGHHHH RUAAAAAGHHH
on the next episode of zenballz

>It's a 300w part look up laptops same thing
user here is right the ps5 psu is rated for 350w to cover efficiency losses fans ssds and shit
>Also look up laptops with desktop parts
Pretty much it's just a 5700u and a 6800 smushed together on one die

>Last time
>On Zenball Z

>Last time
>On Zenball Z
Lisa su raja and chudcuckpoopoocurry are charging supercoomommymanga arc and rdna 3 nvidia is getting ready to burn the whole universe to ash trying to power hopper off a single 450w psu and apple is in its own pocket dimension pod jerking off for preparation in the 2023 games

AMD's semi-custom division is second to none.
Also, cheaper.

Yah so a desktop replacement is 3k make a really fat laptop and sell it for 600 I won't mind.
I like the console laptops but it's a bit much and they don't run windows

most likely. low cost is always the case

I hope one day they all get hacked so we can have dev kits and consoles as pcs
Ps1-3 otheros was cool idea I never got to try it.
I remember xbone ran a form of longhorn and some modders got windows to run on it

AMD will tailor make an APU if the customer is big enough. Only makes sense for consoles. Why use a competitor that would charge twice as much. AMD has the APU market cornered for now
