This is the only proper way to close a window when you're holding the mouse
You have the whole area of the window to click instead of a tiny X
This is the only proper way to close a window when you're holding the mouse
>run 10 different programs and use a GAYMING mouse with a dpi switch just to avoid clicking the X in the top right
Yes, DPI switching is useless to me anyway
>use the custom DPI button
That's literally 10 times more harder to reprogram on most mouses, just get a moba one!
>alt+f4
>>run 10 different programs
its as simple as mapping the x11 keymap of the dpi switch to the built in kill function inside your window manager
Not as simple, you have to calculate the time between 2 clicks, if you make it single click you're going to close stuff accidentally. Also lock the mechanism for 1 second after the last trigger to avoid multiple triggers.
ctrl+w works 70% of the time for me, if not then alt+f4
they're both one-handed operations why would I bother going through hoops to make my mouse do essentially the same thing?
I can map more useful things
2 programs then if you want to activate a timer script with the keybind
I do it all with awesomewm lua functions
I use middle click on the title bar.
I use ctrl+f4 too but sometimes you just have one hand on your mouse, and hand on your balls or chin if you know what I mean
That's more clicking area
But I decided to remove all titlebars
If I want to read the full title I middle click the taskbar item
If I want to move/resize it I use mod+drags
with windows you can also just double click the icon in the top left to close out of it.
This icon?
What makes it different from clicking the X?
>If I want to move/resize it I use mod+drags
I don't like this because it requires the keyboard. I want basically all functionality to be accessibility with both mouse only and keyboard only.
The perfect solution would of course be if I could use a side bitton on my mouse as a modifier key, but sadly mouse and keyboard are handled differently in X, so it doesn't seem like it's possible.
Yes that's why I experimented with bringing titlebars back to un-maximized windows, but I wasn't able to make it work nicely, ideally un-maximized windows should be dragable and resized with one hand.
Why not just close the window that is in focus?
Good point, but what if there are 4 windows visible, and you want to close one in particular. You could either click to focus and then trigger close, or just point and trigger close, point is arguably faster, and is not prone to accidental focus stuff !!!!!!!!!!!!!!
WTF you can detect DPI button clicks?
The time you wasted setting this up is higher than the sum of all the time you'd wasting clicking on these X in your entire life.
