I've been thinking of using LineageOS since I heard it's a lightweight distro, but has anyone actually installed it on a crap phone? did it make it faster? I would try this myself, but I don't have any spare phones in the event I brick my current one. Speaking of which, what phone should I buy if I want to pursue this stuff?

I'm not sure how to interpret the CPU tho, is it actually good installing a lightweight custom rom? maybe not even worth bothering?
This is something I find a bit weird. I keep hearing about "extra features" when searching up rom stuff, but I don't get what those are or could possibly even be. Personally, I just want a phone that can browse the web really smoothly, and use a few banking apps for everyday use and also Any Forums reader. That and USB tethering to get internet is a must.

ok user...from the get go lineage os is the "stock, it just works" distro, just install n go, cr droid on the other hand gives you extra control over the rom...you know what?
