I recommend FNG+a Magisk module that hides the three button navbar. Android gesture navigation is obnoxious to me because I frequently activate the back gesture and I end up feeling claustrophobic because I need to avoid the edges. In FNG you can configure to swipe up from three points on the bottom edge to go home, back or recents.
