GitHub alternatives

What's a good alternative to GitHub? I'd like something more privacy focused (i.e not owned by Microsoft) without sacrificing too many of GitHub's features. Is self-hosting a viable option?

Nobody will know your project exists if it's not on github.

Selfhost gitea

But in reality you should keep up a public-facing GH profile just for jobs and visibility anyway.

bitsource

I meant bitbucket

GitLab

I have a gitlab instance on my home k8s cluster because CI/CD is a must for me -- still overkill for its 2 daily users.

Sourcehut (sr.ht) is great for muh privacy but lacks a lot of github's frills.

Self-host and portforward 80 if you want privacy
Retard

>port 80

yeah, there's GitLab. You can self-host gitlab as well, but are you a schizo or something?

The last company I was at that self-hosted was ran by a fucking paranoid boomer.

good. will filters retards and pajeets and only comfy people will use it

>$20/year for alpha software
I'd rather not.

Not really. Self-hosting is kind of a last resort anyway, since I wouldn't have an easy way to expose my server to the public because of (((NAT))).

neither cost money retard

dont use gitlab.com, its unironically worse than github. you cant even search issues without an account which is fucking awful.

Sourcehut generally costs money if you want to host your own projects.

cgit on git.yourdomain.tld

gitea. drone for CI/CD
!!!DO NOT!!! fall for the Gitlab meme, it is a fat bloated piece of shit, not only that but its way too dangerous to run especially if public facing, about 30 different cves come out for it every week

damn I had no clue, my bad. I made an account on sourcehut but only to submit some pull requests and it never asked for $$$
