1) Use a live image and to boot directly into the GNU/Linux distribution without installing anything.
2) Dual boot the GNU/Linux distribution of your choice along with Windows or macOS.

I want my dwm build to automatically float a client when it asks for it? I don't want to manually set it up through putting the class of the client into the config and then set its 'isfloating' equal to 1.

Does it make sense to have large amounts of swap like 50 GB for example?

If you want your computer to hibernate you need physical swap sequel to your current RAM plus 2GB as a general rule.
Otherwise if you don't need hibernation you can just set up zram swap and use that instead.

That's the idea, thanks fren!

Whatever user, I don't want to distrohop now.

Who has the longest running rolling release installation? Arch/Tumbleweed/Gentoo (are there any other noteworthy rollers?)
Obviously not me.

Arch, Gentoo and openSUSE Tumbleweed are the ones that matter.

I like to keep the stage3 of my Gentoo install as a way to date it. No doubt there is someone here with an install older than mine:

Yeah those are the only ones I can think of that I've seen, or derivatives of them.
Almost 2 years, nice brah.

Create a hotkey to spawn the client and the quickly make it floating

Are there any drivers I should be using for the laptop 5000 series apu graphics?
I'm using opensuse and everything seems working out the box so I'm not use if I should even bother

AMD and Intel parts pretty much work OOTB a majority of the time. openSUSE has probably already installed the drivers you need.

Perfect then I'm good to go
Thanks user!

Maybe do a sudo lspci -v | grep VGA just to check what graphics module is being used.

It seems to be using the correct apu the dgpu is currently inactive

>a year, maybe two away from being able to tell people "we don't do drivers here"
Boy do I hate nvidia, but legit only time you would need drivers is with nvidia or super snowflake wifi.

It would be nice if work on the new NVIDIA open source kernel modules actually does blossom into an open source NVIDIA driver that doesn't suck ass like nouveau does. Broadcomm can suck a fat shit though.

Nouveau doesn't suck ass, technically, the problem is that nvidia have encrypted certain functions that manage powerstates.
So the Nouveau driver is actually really fucking great, it's open source and therefore faces better form of scrutiny, it's just simply not allowed by Nvidia's hand to be good.
With the open source modules in the state they're in I'm more convinced Nvidia is getting eyes on the parts they intend to force into nouveau so they can drop Linux as a proprietary supported platform.

Is there anything that I can do with a old CPU that still works?

Will using Gentoo increase my powerbill?

Probably but by a negligible amount. You're not going to notice it.

Yes.

just done installing fedora on my acer helios 300. is there any way to control fan speeds manually? I tried sensors-detect and pwmconfig but it cannot find my fan.
