It's 2022, why is it so hard to install programs onto gnu/Linux without repositories or compiling? Things like Appimages don't count because all they do is contain snapshots of the same broken system. I'm talking from a developers perspective, I want the ability to roll out my progress and have people be able to install it regardless of their distro. You know like Windows and Mac does. Why is everything in gnu so half assed? I'm going back to Windows 11...

What's wrong with Appimage?

Because it doesn't fix the issue at all. It just uses fuse to run an image full of dependencies, massively increasing the applications size on disk. It's a bandaid on a hemorrhoid. I thought Linux was suppose to be developer friendly.

That's because it's perpetually a bad joke.
Windows server took the lions share of servers like 5 years ago.
Devs switched back to Windows and to a lesser extent Macs.
Every attempt to make Linux usable on the desktop is met with the gatekeeping community. They stand in the way of progress and there's been reports of purposeful bad code being submitted. Over simplification of the desktop or releasing unstable code. All in a vain attempt to keep users off of the platform.
A stark example of this is systemd. It's openly mocked and hated despite it actually solving a lot of problems.
Honestly if everyone in the Linux """"community"""" dropped off the earth tomorrow, Linux would actually benefit from it. They have no lives and use what little power to ban people having actual issues.

>same IP
great, another gorilla nigger

>run an image full of dependencies, massively increasing the applications size on disk.
Oh, you mean like Windows and macOS apps?

Unless you are trying to use a distro you shouldnt or a program that is niche most have .deb, rpm and the such.
Wow. How can you be wrong about everything. Pretty amazing talent you have.

>Things like Appimages don't count
dumb ape nigger

>appimage bad because bloated dependencies
>windows is good because it runs an entire subsystem for compatability with previous versions of windows
??????????
bloat bad vs microsoft bloat good

find me a single program that runs on all versions of windows from 95 to 11 that doesnt require use of microsofts compatibility libraries and ill consider your point. gnu/linux isnt an entire operating system unto itself in the same way that windows is. itd be better to compare it to dos. windows developers dont develop for 12 different windows versions, they develop for 10 or 11 and hope it has compatiblity with previous versions and/or Horizontal versions (10 LTSC for example) by way of the MASSIVE compatibility libraries baked in to every single release of windows post 3.0.

every version of Ubuntu, for example, and in fact pretty much every derivative of debian will support .deb or .rpm, in the same way that every version if windows 10 will support a .exe built for windows ten. the trouble is, maybe .exe programs dont run on versions of windows newer than what they were built for. maybe programs require running in compatibility modes, which is as bad if not WORSE for bloated dependabcies and libraries than windows is.

the fact is, microsoft does a good job of making it so you dont need to do your fucking job correctly. gnu does not hold your hand, and yet even with that there are still many deplayment methods that work lerfectly fine across many systems. so whats better, a fundamentally stupid system that requires you be handheld for it to work, or the freedom of chosing one of many formats that do as good a job without the hand holding?

>require running in compatibility modes, which is as bad if not WORSE for bloated dependancies and libraries than windows is.
meant to say as bad if not worse than appimages

>without repositories
because you zoomer niggers don't understand how computers actually work and it helps to keep you on your spyware devices out of our Foss sandbox.

OP's a giant retard, but Windows' backwards compatibility is by far their biggest advantage. Getting old software to run natively in modern Linux is a nightmare and it's just easier to run the Windows version via Wine.

Op here, I'm not a bot just another disgruntled Linux user who got filtered.
Nope
They only contain what's needed and will check your os and only install what's necessary.
Package managers and repositories, all fail to accomplish the goal.
I'm white sorry.
I've tried wine and it's shoddy and garbage.

retard, what the fuck does "install" even mean?

If you like windows. Use windows? Who cares?
I personally don't. I like Linux, it's pretty easy to use, customizable, and runs everything I want it to run.
I honestly don't care if Linux ever becomes mainstream. Attempts have been made endlessly and when you try to appeal to what the average user wants you end up with clusterfucks just as bad as windows itself.
So, you like just downloading random exes from the internet? Good for you bro but I would rather deal with snaps it flatpaks or appimages etc then exes. It's easier for me to manage and maintain. Learning the differences between different packages and using things like proton is not a big deal to me and I think anyone could pretty much do it if they put in like 5 minutes of their time.

What's wrong with using your fingers to type the name of a program and choosing a specific syntax for a specific purpose compared to just searching up an application and installing it through pressing a couple of buttons that suits your needs?

Windows is actually great. I never realized how good it was until I used Linux, so I guess it accomplished something. I don't download random anything, everything I do has purpose. It's a far cry easier than using repositories. I'm already in the browser looking shit up, why do I need to switch to a terminal? Repositories don't contain everything available for Linux. If they did I wouldn't be here. They're not enough. Why would I emulate Windows with wine and proton when I could just use Windows?
Because I'm not going to sit and memorize every application on my computer. Especially with the retarded names like gimp. I click icons and things run and I'm doing what I need to do. Linux appeals to those with no lives I suppose. I thought it was going to be fun, it was just time consuming work. I couldn't just use it, I had to babysit it. It was like using Windows Vista with how often it asks for my password.

>calls someone a retard
>doesn't know what install means

>I'm going back to Windows 11...
And stay there.
And if you're going to write software you intend to be portable across OSes, release a source tarball on your site and be receptive and feedback and structure or configuration requests from the distribution package maintainers.
It's really that fucking simple. Well that, and make sure you have a configure script and Makefile build if at all possible, anything beyond that is a pain in the ass to integrate with.

Ever wonder why these blatant troll threads that violate the only rule in the sticky are never deleted while the mod is literally in these threads all day deleting posts?
Because the apple nigger mód is the OP posting from his iphone. He spends 20 hours a day of his worthless NEET life posting these falseflag troll threads, deleting posts exposing him as the OP, and saving his anti-linux/windows troll threads every time they reach page 10:
The only way to purge these shit threads off Any Forums is to put a bullet in his head.

I don't have any issues with open source in theory but in practice GNU specifically sucks cock and desperately needs an overhaul.
