3d industry sucks, getting back to programming

I pretty much wasted 5+ years on 3d modeling cause I wanted to become a 3d modeler for a video game company, I practiced for so long on my art fundamentals and learned software like Maya, zbrush, substance painter, etc. hoping things would work out eventually, I endured shitty minimum wage jobs for years thinking I was building up to something good, something I was passionate about,

only to realize that some schmuck that didn't even know how to properly code but graduated from university had better financial prospects and opportunities in a couple of years of half assed learning than me with all of my efforts in 5+ years of work, and yet even if I manage to get a job in the 3d industry, I'll still be treated like a second class citizen with limited financial growth. while the schmuck gets and entry level position for 75k.

and don't get me wrong I wasn't doing this for the money, but the fact is that i'm 29 and still struggling to even eat properly thanks to being poor and working shitty jobs, and the fact that is almost fucking impossible to even get a proper job in the 3d industry, and so I'm tired and done. I became jaded and bitter.

I could have become a senior programmer by now if had stuck with programming instead.

So guys I'm completely out of the loop here, where should I go if I wanna get into something that will get me a job as soon as possible, I'm very good picking up things very fast and I'm always very thorough, I was thinking about blockchain development, but I'd appreciate any guidance.

And yes, I made pic related.

You're really stupid aren't you?
You missed the 3D anime vtuber commission train too?

Yet another victim of the
>work in the video game industry, follow your passion!
Meme. We told you, we always tell you and no one ever listens.

>I wanted to become a 3d modeler for a video game company
oh no no no no no no no hahahahaa

learn webdev, it's filled with braindead codemonkeys and pay really well

And what you could've accomplished on those 5+ years with coding instead? Become a webshitter? You could've come with the same complaints but with coding instead. Nowadays you need a degree if you want those 75k, or be a pajeet working from abroad.
Have you tried expanding your industry? Like modeling for animation studios or maybe comercials. Selling models online maybe, like game assets? Games are not the only shit that uses 3d models. Metaverse is bs but still a chance to 3d artists to profilerate, model some furry avatar commisions for VRChat, those faggots always have tons of money. Your problem is that you have a closed mine.

Mind*

Why do you believe that getting a job in industry will be so terrible?
Why is it impossible to that job in the first place?

yeah at the very least I wouldn't be working in customer service at 29 if I had stuck with programming, I'm sure of that.
the thing with 3d is that you can spread yourself too thin if you wanna become something like a generalist, and it takes so long to even finish anything it's not even profitable.
I was serious at one point about it, I really was. it's truly a shame, but i was naive.

it's not terrible but the skill ceiling is sky high and there's tons of competition plus not a very "junior" friendly industry, pretty much you are expected to be something of an expert even for an entry level job with tons of competition.

make 3d porn you idiot

also I will not give in to degenrate shit like working for furries, pornography or anime, I'm a respectable adult.

I really wish i could work in video games. i dont understand people who bitch about salary or hours. i would gladly have a shit salary and bad hours if i could make a video game. i mean isnt that the point? the greatest games of all time were made by people sleeping under the desks. i dont give a fuck.

it's very hard to get in, unless it's indie or starting a game yourself, and sooner or later you gotta make a living.

That's literally impossible though. Its not fair that you need to master basically every art and skill in life to make a game. Everythings so fucked nowadays. Those old devs in the old days never had to sign up for the hell that is being a modern indie dev. and i dont even care about making a living

The industry was worse back in the day. Trust me. Programing was way harder, and platforms where locked down, PCs where non existent, and hardware was ludicrously expensive.
Every platform had to be targeted individually.
Honestly we're in the golden age of indie dev. A halfwit that can swallow their pride and learn can build a game in a weekend

Go make an indie game then, those aren't expected to have multinationals and thousands of devs working on them

The game industry is pretty unwelcoming to young and or inexperienced workers, its a really bad career path. I was looking at job listings at Riot Games the other day and every position required several years of experience and some pretty heavy stuff. I'm not surprised game devs are generally older. It's a huge commitment and you have to throw yourself at it for years.

I've met plenty of artists like you.
the only reason you can't make money with your art is because it's not only saturated, but you are most likely staggeringly mediocre and worthless for that industry if you have to consider furry pr0n at all in the first place. you're not doing any better with programming, if anything you will be competing with pajeets instead of russians and might end up coming back here bitching that you only make furry porn games or webdev for some chinese pyramid scheme. you failed to work on your craft, so don't get excited. for all intents and purposes fuck off back to with that mentality, faggot.

yeah and what do you get in return for learning all that stuff? the fact that almost everyone else in a game / vfx company is getting paid more than the artists, who not only have to have exceptional artistic skills but also technical and even programming skills while not having as many opportunities to grow as someone who only does programming for example.
shit is bizarre.

nah it wasn't you're wrong here. countless of those guys got their start with zero skill or knowledge. literally just walked onto a team. so shut the fuck up.
I literally expressed why thats impossible. to make an indie game you need to master every art and skill. thats just not doable. its way too hard to make a game nowadays

not at all, I am first of all not mediocre, I dedicated serious time and effort to develop my artistic skills as well as my technical skills, the market for vxf and games is just fucked, it's very competitive and it's not globally present per say, so if you're not already living in a city where the industry is present you're essentially gonna have a very hard time, on the other hand you can find all sorts of programming jobs on any given city in the world so.

>build their game in a weekend*
After several years of education involving Calc I-IV, engineering physics, courses in data structures, algorithms, logic, and algebra, courses in programming itself of course.

Why even make this thread if you're just gonna bitch and moan and doompost?

But its true though isn't it?

you dont know what you are talking about. shitty programming gigs are way, way easier than game dev 3d modeler positions.
there are dozens of big software companies but only a handful of big game dev companies.

You seem to think making video games is impossible despite it being done all the time, and that you yourself have to master everything as if games aren't team efforts these days to get them out in a timely fashion.
And for some reason you look down on games programmers despite them making the whole fucking game and all the tooling that houses and renders your assets.
You are worthless.
