Windows has one niche and that's gaming, and even then, every new Windows release breaks a good amount of older games. There's however one advantage that Windows has and that's being able to easily install and use older versions of programs as opposed to being limited by the constantly updating nature of dependencies.

Another niche you intentionaly chose to ignore is Professionals. In our day and age of smartphones and smart Tvs, most Computer are used mainly for Pro reasons. And none of the existing alternative come close to Windows support for professionals, be it hired spreadsheet wagies or conventional corporations with Windows Workstations.
The gayming niche barely accounts for less than 10% users and the Pro niche probably accounts for a solid 50% of users.

Windows has the biggest selection of software available for its platform than any other operating system. The benefit of this is that users get to choose from a wider variety of options. That and the simplicity of its usage for NPCs.
