There's got to be a catch. All the rental services around me are after lower income people with no credit, so they'll pay $X/month for Y months, to the point where it costs $100s more than if you bought it outright.

They make money by going on renting that phone out for years to come, and just lower the monthly price a bit when a newer model comes out. They probably also have a fee they charge you if you damage it.
