The MacBook Air is absolutely amazing. Yes, it's the best value for money you can get at the moment, even 1.5 years after its release.

As for the Pro models, not so much. They're great but not that great.

i dont regret choosing to buy an m1 mbp. the battery lasts for DAYS and it doesn't even get hot for any of my workloads.

Definitely is imo, I never thought i'd buy an apple product but after having used the m1 for about a year I'm glad to say its one of the best pieces of tech I've invested in, It's pretty much everything I've wanted from a laptop.

I only have 2 downsides.
First one being limited software support, almost everything I use has an apple silicon version but there's still very select few programs/softwares that still don't and can be a hassle sometimes. (Ex - Tensorflow still doesn't have proper support and can be a pain in the ass to get working).

Second is the fact that linux still have very limited support on arm, the only hope I see is Asashi linux for m1's but its still very early in development.

Honestly would've bought one if my job didn't provide me with a fat HP elitebook.

I feel like the device is great for a casual user but I would like for the platform to mature a bit.
They really could do a lot if they gave users more freedoms for different task

6800u might be better GPU and MT but it uses more power and 1t is sometimes weaker

The hardware is cool but the software blows and I'm not just talking about compatibility.

I think it was Steve's idea that you should be able to see every window on the desktop at any time which is why you don't actually maximize like in windows. As for snapping, I believe microsoft has a patent on it so Apple can't implement something like it.

The M1 Macbook Air is some sort of hack of physics. I don't have one, but I work with a group that does small video shoots or documentaries, outreach, education and stuff like that. Our producer has one and she rolls raw real time as it's shot and edits it together and we have a better than rough cut before even leaving the set. It's fucking crazy. Before she had to load all the shots onto a portable drive and edit them at the studio. It saves a shitload of time, takes and money. And the fucking thing is like the size of a big iPad.

Every Linux DE has this feature. It's just Apple having their heads up their own asses.

Maximize windows yes, you click the bar to make it big or the green button to make it full screen just like Windows.
I think Microsoft has the snap window feature copyrighted or that's the only explanation I can give as to why Mac doesn't have it.
But there's a program called Magnet that does just that and it's easily pirateable.
