Recommended e-readers that aren't half a grand and aren't Amazon walled garden pieces of shit?

You need to pay up if you want to read pdfs. Otherwise pretty much anything works for epubs. I use kobo clara hd, fits in my pocket and I love it

Those are the only two kinds

I bought a Kobo because it doesn't ever have to be hooked up online.

kobo

How is the Kindle even walled, faggot? Have you been hallucinating during your bi-daily compulsory dilation sessions again?

kobo clara hd
>uses a microsd for storage, you can upgrade to a larger card as well as clone it (good idea since the waveform data for the display is stored on it)
>extremely easy to bypass kobo account requirement
>possible to set up telnet over usb or ssh for more control
>possible to install koreader and syncthing to sync progress with phone/desktop
>possible to install postmarketos

Thank me later

i like my Kobo Libra H2O. i can mount it as a disk and copy epubs over directly—it's totally trivial. no shitware is needed

Why are all e-readers so fucking slow and unresponsive?

I found a Barnes&Noble Nook, which, after some tinkering, I updated the firmware of.
It's a nice thing, tho it's kinda small, and honestly I'd much better prefer Sony's 5", but that is kind of unobtanium where I live

Its literally sloshing around droplets of ink.

Is the libra 2 worth it over the clara hd if I can afford it? I'm guessing you can still bypass the kobo account requirement and install koreader on it. Mainly want a 7-inch screen for manga, plus I like the physical buttons. My other option was the pocketbook touch hd 3 but it seems a bit expensive for the specs it brings.

not him but i really like my libra 2, and having tried a clara it's definitely worth the extra money in my opinion

You can actually use a Kindle without internet as well, though it tries to push you in that direction. IMO, a used paperwhite with KOReader installed is a great deal, it essentially completely replaces the Amazon interface.

buy a kindle and install calibre

A kobo.
It's not ideal. You still boot into the kindle UI and you have to keep the firmware on an old version. Better to just buy a device that isn't locked down in the first place
That's the fucking point retard. No one gives a shit about your tranny responsiveness.

A printer.

If you look at the modern note taking ones you'll see they really aren't.

This. I turned on wifi on my kindle exactly twice, when I started it for the first time and when I asked support to turn off the ads for free. It just works, all offline. People on Any Forums are unironically retarded
