24 hour time is clearly better for scheduling and logistics puropses, everyone I know in any well administrated idustry in the US uses it for that purpose. 12 hour is simply far too embedded into your typical 'salt of the earth' type to get rid of entirely without backlash and confusion.

There is a reason why the CIA world fact book does not show the literacy rate for the United States like it does for other countries. It is because among somewhat wealthy, industrialized nations, the United States has a comparatively low literacy rate. This is especially worth reflecting on when you consider that many countries that the United States has embargoed for decades have had higher literacy rates (like Cuba, for example).
