GNOME is very customizable
>breaks all ur addons next update
nothin personnel
GNOME is the most customizable desktop. Which is why GNOME reskins like Cinnamon, MATE, Budgie, Pantheon, COSMIC etcs exist.
The thing is, GNOME leaves the customization to actual programmers, not tinker trannies which filters out 100% of GNOME critics.
See, the problem is that your system is going to completely fall apart within a month. Even if it doesn't get raped by updates, the experience is going to feel very buggy like the entire thing is held together with duct tape and chewing gum.
Sirs do not redeem addons

Not GNOMEs fault that the extension developer isn't checking his extension against the upcoming GNOME in Fedora Rawhide.
did i fuck up by installing kubuntu? i haven't used gnome since around when gnome 3 came out.
You fell for the meme.
I guess you're right, but one thing I wanted to point out is that in one of your previous posts you mentioned that "GNOME is the most customizable desktop", where as many people who use GNOME and even some of the developers themselves claim that GNOME should only ever be used without extensions in its pure form. Kinda odd.
Looks like fucking Android.
>Cinnamon, MATE, Budgie, Pantheon
None of these are reskins
Fork of early gnome 3
Fork of gnome 2
Independent GTK based
Independent GTK based
GNOME's workflow is actually pretty good when you learn it, plus the extension developers are lazy, and you might find the extensions being broken because of it.
COSMIC is independent GTK based? Okay so what window manager, virtual file system, network manager do they use?
Thought so.
Never talked about cosmic tho
Deliberately did not quote that one.
Sure, so what virtual file system, dbus implementation, file manager and control panel does budgie use?
Even more odd because they've been improving the extension system for a while: less session restarts, auto-detecting buggy extensions and disabling them if they make the shell crash, the standalone Extensions app with extension autoupgrading and so on. Maybe the actual point is providing a stable, minimal base desktop you can build on, and if all else fails you still have a working desktop to start over.
I'm glad GNOME finally moved extension management to a desktop app. Doing it through a web browser always felt weird.
None of those are skins they use the toolkit gnome uses. And half of what you listed are ditching gtk.
Sure they use gnome's because it's a good base.
Still an independant project.
KDE also uses software developed by gnome sometimes. Doesn't mean that KDE is part of gnome.
pro tip, this is better than the stock one
flatpak install flathub com.mattjakeman.ExtensionManager
All of them use GTK, and budgie was supposed to "move to Qt" 4 years ago, not gonna happen.
You see, Qt is pretty much unusable outside C++, and nobody wants to touch Qt with a 1- meter pole.
KDE has its own virtual file system (I forget what it is), uses KIO instead of gio, has its own window manager very different to mutter, its own control settings and network manager and its very own dbus implementation.
One of the reason why KDE is so buggy is because apps kinda assume GNOME based system and KDE alternatives don't adhere to the protocols GNOME provides. KIO is known to break software from time to time.
KDE works and non tablet interface.
I'm sorry you got mind broken by a foot

the only difference between GNOME and a tiling WM autism setup is that the latter at least looks cool when you spend hours on end every two weeks fixing it
