I agree with the video but there's such a thing as open source projects with proper direction and management. Funded open source projects, whether they're through crowdfunding or a company, such as something like blender, linux, or google are routinely successful. Something can still be FOSS while its maintainers are paid.

this thread is retarded but I'm glad you linked the video. It's a pretty interesting dive into FOSS and it's potential pitfalls. I disagree with a lot of what he has to say but it doesn't all seem completely misinformed. I do genuinely agree with his take on valve's push for linux support though. People blow a lot of smoke up valve's ass for that when really it's just an ethical way to cover their own asses that has the consequence of better linux support in general.
