Advice for a friend

I have a friend who's been using Windows 11 on his XPS and fucking hates it. He got a Macbook Pro for work and loves it so much that he only uses his XPS for porn now. Now he wants to sell his XPS and buy a Macbook air.

He doesn't even want to try Linux on a usb because he thinks it's too much of a learning curve, doesn't care about telemetry, and doesn't want to configure ANYTHING. He had a bad experience with Ubuntu 7 years ago and thinks that the linux kernel is the same as the Desktop Environment.

How do I help him avoid making this tragic mistake?

You cant force him. Tell him to try kubuntu.

Performance-wise m1 airs are pretty cool, also if your friend likes macOS, proposing Linux will be extremely hard. You better force him to try new Ubuntu or Manjaro and say that any other laptop is better for gaming and doesn’t have these annoying bezels or poor 720p webcam.

False. Manjaro ships proprietary nonfree firmware blobs along the kernel.

Idk. I get where hes coming from. Was exactly the same, disgusted with linux. Look at me now, in love, wasting the best years of my life configuring gentoo kernel.

But on a serious note, he has nothing to lose, he can install kubuntu on it and give it a week or two just for the experience.

Macos is basically linux (except linux just werks.

He obviously isn't interested in running the libre kernel or installing drivers.

Lol why are you trying to convert this dude into something he's clearly not interested in?

There is nothing wrong with not wanting to fuck around with configuration and settings for your computer. He's just not the type of person to care for technology / computers the same way you do and he probably never will.

Car analogy™:
I bought a car that just werks beacasue I don't give a shit about cars. I could literally not care less about cars, so all I want is for the car to take me from place A to place B while providing a reasonable level of comfort.

I have friends who love tinkering with beat up cars and swapping parts and screwing around with them. I have other friends who tune their cars and try to get the absolute max out of their vehicles.

No matter how much they would try to convince me that I should get the same type of cars they have if I JUST do some minor tweaking to get it to run better I would not do it. I care too little about cars for it to be worth it.

Your friend is the same with computers, stop bugging him.

>Car analogy™:
Been there, done that.

Buying a Mac is like buying a corvette because you like speed. It doesn't make you competent at driving, mechanics, or anything else. It's a solution for a midlife crisis.

Tell him you'll install a distro for a week and if he doesnt like it youll install windows back on it...Maybe try something like ubuntu budgie since its very close to windows with the user friendly aspect. If he says he doesnt like it within that week find a win10 torrent with kms activation bundled in then install that on it. also offer to back up his data too for free. The more you offer to do for free the more likely he is to give it a try :)

Pick one

Leave that zoom zoom alone. Hes clearly uninterested and you're just annoying him.

Also don't belittle him in the process. Making him feel like he's making the wrong choices will only keep him from switching over.

Dude listen to the guy you replied to and stop autisticly screeching at your friend before you lose him. The only thing you should say to your friend is to get a macbook pro over air. Macbooks are superior computers and linux is for servers, not desktops.

he is acting like a Redditor run and never talk to him again

Congratulations you're the most insufferable person I've seen on Any Forums this week and that's saying something
